What is PU material?

PU material, i.e. polyurethane, is a polymer formed by the polymerization of multifunctional isocyanates with polyols. It is derived from crude oil. It is used, among other things, in the production of elastic fibers such as elastane, which are then used to manufacture outdoor, trekking and workwear, as well as any other clothing where comfort of use and freedom of movement are important. The main advantages of PU include:
  • comfort of use (skin-friendly, pleasant to the touch);
  • moisture permeability while remaining resistant to water;
  • high stretchability;
  • durability.
Polyurethanes are easier to process than polyamides due to their lower melting point, which is why they are much more widely used. Commonly used PU-coated materials are very popular, e.g. in upholstery. PU coating is a material that imitates leather - the so-called "eco leather". PU material offers a wide range of elasticity adjustments to suit our needs, and also allows us to influence which external factors it should be resistant to. PU-based outerwear performs well in all weather conditions by adjusting its properties to provide moisture protection and cold resistance.
